The Anti-Run Streak

This summer I was so happy to complete the Runner’s World Summer Run Streak because I persevered through thick, thin, and bat crap crazy (trust me it got ugly there for a bit).  It was rough at the end because I was in pain from my injury, but I was so happy to be running each day even if it was only a mile.

Summer Run StreakWell September was the Anti-Run Streak.  The  last time I ran was August 31. That run was the last straw, a run so painful it brought tears to my eyes.  It was time to admit, 10 weeks after my initial injury, that it wasn’t getting any better and it probably wasn’t just a pulled hamstring.  (Really Abby, you think so?  Duh!  Hindsight 20-20.)

Since then my running life has turned upside down:
- For the first time since I began my healthy living quest (half marathon/marathon training) I have not run for an ENTIRE month.  In fact I have never missed more than a week before.
– I deferred my second marathon.  I will not run Marine Corp until next year which stinks as it was to be my redemption marathon.  Catch my vlog on deferring MCM for some awesome, sappy, accidently teary moments.
– I have to drop out of a race (no deferment option) because I am not able to/allowed to run.  A local 10K, the Isle of Palms Connector Run, which I was really looking forward to doing this Saturday.
Isle of Palms Connector Run- My workouts stink!  I am trying to find a way to get some fitness work done even though I cannot run (or use my left leg for much of anything); however, even after easy biking or walking I am in pain so workouts are fewer and further between then I would like.
– It looks like I won’t be running again anytime soon.  I am praying that by the end of month 2 without running I’ll be back- I am going stir crazy.

*However, I must shout out some positives.  It does stink that I cannot run or workout very well and that after deferring one race I now have to cancel another; however, you all are motivating me and encouraging me like crazy.  I am getting an amazing amount of support and so many kind words.  In fact I know it is because of all of you holding me accountable that even though I haven’t been able to run at all for a month (and have barely burnt any calories) I haven’t gained a single pound.  A huge accomplishment for me as I am a really “good eater”.*

I want to live vicariously through you after having to drop from my weekend 10K….
Any big run goals you met recently?
What is your next race?
